GPU comparison
RTX PRO 6000 vs L40S: is 96 GB worth the step up?
The RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell doubles the L40S's memory, has about 1.85 times its bandwidth and adds FP4. The L40S costs $500 a month less and remains the right card for work that fits in 48 GB.
Choose the RTX PRO 6000 if…
from $1,390/mo
- Your scenes, video models or LLMs need more than 48 GB.
You serve 70B-class models in FP8 or4-bit on a single GPU.- You want FP4 inference on Blackwell tensor cores.
- You need eight GPUs in one server, at $10,490 a month.
Choose the L40S if…
from $890/mo
Your jobs fit comfortably in 48 GB, such as SDXL, Flux-class images, 7B to 14B models ormid-size scenes.- You want more cards for the money to run many parallel workers.
- Your pipeline runs in FP8 or BF16 and does not need FP4.
Bottom linePay the extra $500 a month for the RTX PRO 6000 when your work needs more than 48 GB or FP4; if it fits in 48 GB, the L40S at $890 is the better buy.

The RTX PRO 6000 vs L40S choice is mostly about memory. NVIDIA's RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition has 96 GB of GDDR7 at about 1.6 TB/s. The L40S, an Ada Lovelace card, has 48 GB of GDDR6 at 864 GB/s. Both are PCIe cards with RT cores, built for a mix of rendering, generative media and AI inference. We rent the RTX PRO 6000 at $1,390 a month and the L40S at $890.
RTX PRO 6000 vs L40S: the short answer
Memory: 96 GB of GDDR7 vs 48 GB of GDDR6
| Workload | Memory, roughly | L40S, 48 GB | RTX PRO 6000, 96 GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8B LLM, BF16 | 16 GB + KV cache | Fits | Fits, more room for batching |
| 32B LLM, FP8 | 32 GB + KV cache | Fits, about 16 GB spare | Fits, about 64 GB spare |
| 35 GB + KV cache | Tight, about 13 GB spare | Fits, about 61 GB spare | |
| 70B LLM, FP8 | 70 GB + KV cache | Does not fit | Fits, about 26 GB spare |
| About 24 GB plus text encoders | Fits | Fits, with room for parallel jobs | |
| 14B video model, BF16 | About 28 GB plus encoders and activations | Tight for longer clips | Fits |
Rendering and generative media
Video generation is where the gap is widest. Memory grows with resolution and clip length, because the model attends across the latent tokens of every frame. With 96 GB you can keep larger video models in BF16, generate longer clips and avoid CPU offloading, which slows every step. For still images at SDXL or Flux scale, 48 GB is usually enough, and the less expensive card is often the right one. Our generative media page covers both cases.
Inference: bandwidth, FP8 and FP4
NVIDIA also lists MIG for the RTX PRO 6000, with up to four isolated instances per card, which helps when one GPU serves several small models. We rent the whole card and never partition it ourselves; if you plan to use MIG, mention it in the notes for our engineers when you order.

How to decide
- Measure peak memory on your heaviest job with
. If it stays under about 40 GB, the L40S is enough.nvidia-smi - Above 40 GB, or planning bigger models and longer clips: choose the RTX PRO 6000.
- Need FP4 inference: choose the RTX PRO 6000, since Ada does not support it.
- Many small independent jobs: several L40S plans give you more cards for the money.
For language models, the VRAM calculator estimates memory needs before you order.
