## Overview

A Vast.ai alternative is worth considering once a project moves from experiments to production. Vast.ai is a marketplace: hosts ranging from individuals with a single gaming PC to Tier-4 data centers list their GPUs, and each host sets its own prices, reliability expectations and verification level. That model gives you a wide choice and per-second billing. When you need the same machine every day, with one provider accountable for it, a dedicated server at a flat monthly price works differently. This page compares the two as of October 2026.

## Why teams look for a Vast.ai alternative

The marketplace model shifts some decisions to you. Reliability is a score that each machine builds from its own history of uptime, and Vast.ai notes that provider security varies significantly, recommending its Secure Cloud providers for maximum security. Prices are set by hosts and move with supply and demand. Bandwidth is charged per byte in both directions at rates each host sets, and storage keeps billing while an instance is stopped. Interruptible instances may be paused when outbid.

None of this is a flaw for experiments, batch jobs or price-sensitive research. For a production inference service or a long fine-tuning run, teams often prefer to trade that choice for a fixed machine, fixed terms and one point of contact.

## OverGPU vs Vast.ai at a glance

| Criterion | OverGPU | Vast.ai |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Billing model | Flat monthly price per server, billed in advance; per-GPU-hour equivalent published | Prepaid credits, billed per second; prices set by each host |
| Minimum commitment | One month; cancel any month with no fee | None on demand; reserved terms of 1, 3 or 6 months |
| Hardware tenancy | Whole physical GPUs for one customer: bare-metal 8-GPU servers or a dedicated VM with the full GPU passed through; no vGPU, MIG or time-sharing | Marketplace of independent hosts, from individuals to data centers; instances are mostly Docker containers (some VMs) with exclusive access to the rented GPUs |
| GPU lineup focus | B300, B200, H200, H100, MI355X, RTX PRO 6000, L40S and RTX 5090; GB300 NVL72 on request | 68+ GPU types, from RTX 3060 to B200 |
| Data transfer and egress | 20 TB/month (single-GPU) or 50 TB/month (8-GPU) included, no egress fees, fair use; inbound not counted | Bandwidth charged per byte for ingress and egress, at rates set by each host |
| Payment methods | Crypto (BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT TRC-20, SOL) via a prepaid USD balance, with a top-up bonus of up to 50%; card payments coming soon | Major credit cards through Stripe; crypto through BitPay and Crypto.com |
| Support | 24/7 engineers; 99.9% monthly availability SLA with service credits | 24/7 support chat, email and a Discord community |
| Best for | Steady workloads that run most of the month: inference, long training and fine-tuning runs | Experiments, interruptible batch jobs and projects that benefit from a wide choice of hardware |

## Marketplace hosts or one accountable provider

On a marketplace, the platform matches you with a host, and that host's hardware, network and track record shape your experience. You can pay more for a more reliable machine, or less for one with a shorter history. With us, there is one provider responsible for power, network and hardware on every server. We commit to 99.9% monthly availability under our [SLA](https://overgpu.com/legal/sla) and pay service credits when we fall short, from 10% of the server's monthly fee below 99.9% up to 100% below 95%. Failed GPUs and components are replaced as a priority, and if a repair cannot be completed quickly, we offer an equivalent server where available.

The cost model differs too. Our price is fixed for each paid month, and bandwidth is included with no egress fees, up to 20 TB per month on single-GPU servers and 50 TB on 8-GPU servers under fair use; [bandwidth and egress](https://overgpu.com/help/bandwidth-and-egress) explains the details. Inbound traffic is not counted, and disks are securely erased between customers.

## When Vast.ai is the better choice

- You need a GPU for a few hours or days and want to pay only for that time, down to the second.
- Your batch jobs checkpoint often and can run on interruptible, bid-priced instances.
- You want a specific GPU model, including consumer cards, that a dedicated provider does not stock.
- You want to automate rentals through Vast.ai's REST API, CLI or Serverless platform.

## What OverGPU offers, and what it does not

Each server comes with whole GPUs assigned to you alone, with no vGPU, MIG or time-sharing. You get root access over SSH, Ubuntu images with NVIDIA drivers, CUDA, Docker and the NVIDIA Container Toolkit preinstalled, local NVMe, and DDoS mitigation on public IPs, so your existing container images run as they are. The price is flat and billed monthly in advance, with no setup fee and a published per-GPU-hour equivalent on our [pricing page](https://overgpu.com/pricing). You pay from a prepaid balance that you top up in [crypto](https://overgpu.com/pay-with-crypto) (BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT on TRON or SOL), with a top-up bonus of up to 50%; card payments are coming soon. Engineers answer 24/7.

We do not offer per-second billing, interruptible or spot capacity, or serverless endpoints, and our catalog is focused: single-GPU plans from RTX 5090 to B300, plus 8-GPU servers. You [deploy a server](https://overgpu.com/deploy) in one form and pay the first month from your balance; the server is delivered in under 10 minutes after payment. ## Moving a workload from Vast.ai

Most Vast.ai workloads are already packaged as Docker images, and they run unchanged on our servers, as our [Docker guide](https://overgpu.com/docs/docker-containers) explains. Size the GPU with the [VRAM calculator](https://overgpu.com/tools/vram-calculator), deploy a server, and copy models and datasets to local NVMe once the server is delivered. Inbound traffic is not counted on our side, although the host you are leaving may bill the transfer out at its own rate. Run both setups in parallel for a few days before you switch production traffic, and keep your own copies of important data, since we do not back up local storage.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is OverGPU different from the Vast.ai marketplace?

Vast.ai connects you with independent hosts that set their own prices and terms. We are a single provider renting whole dedicated GPUs at a flat monthly price, with a 99.9% availability SLA, service credits and 24/7 engineers.

### Does OverGPU offer interruptible or bid pricing?

No. Your server is reserved for you for the whole paid month and is not reclaimed for other customers. If your jobs tolerate interruptions and run only occasionally, interruptible marketplace instances may cost less.

### Are there bandwidth charges on OverGPU servers?

There are no egress fees within the included bandwidth: 20 TB per month on single-GPU servers and 50 TB on 8-GPU servers, under fair use. Inbound traffic is not counted.

### Can I pay with crypto, as on Vast.ai?

Yes. We accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), USDT on TRON (TRC-20) and Solana (SOL) to top up a prepaid balance in US dollars, at an exchange rate locked for a limited time. Servers are paid from that balance with an invoice for every payment, and card payments are coming soon.

### Can I run my existing Docker images on OverGPU?

Yes. Our Ubuntu images come with NVIDIA drivers, CUDA, Docker and the NVIDIA Container Toolkit preinstalled, and root access lets you run your containers as you like.
